Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine
Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine are just two of the branches of the over 5,000-year-old medical system called Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This vast holistic system diagnoses and treats disease, but its main goal is to promote wellness, and prevent illness through healthy living.
Clinical studies have shown that acupuncture and herbal medicine are both safe and effective. Western medicine has begun to adopt and respect acupuncture as an alternative form of health care.
Patients report relief from pain, chronic conditions and better well-being when doing regular acupuncture.
Traditional Chinese Medicine offers powerful, effective treatments for pain, stress & anxiety, chronic digestive disorders, women’s issues and many more.
Traditional Chinese Medicine follows the belief that a vital life force called Qi (chee) flows through meridians (invisible pathways) inside our bodies, providing nourishment to every cell, organ, gland, tissue and muscle, and keeps us balanced in every way: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Any interruption in this flow causes imbalances in the body or mind, leading to illness.
Many aspects of modern life such as emotional stress, lack of exercise, injury, overwork and poor diets can create blockages in the flow of Qi. When Qi is backed up in one part of the body, the flow can no longer nourish the pathways downstream.
If this disruption lasts for too long, serious pain and illness can result.
Traditional Chinese Medicine uses multiple modalities to restore the proper flow of qi and balance in the body. Some of these include acupuncture, herbal medicine, food therapy, massage, moxibustion, cupping and Qi Gong.
The theory teaches that every part of the human body, mind and spirit are interconnected, and that humans are also interconnected with nature and the universe and therefore subject to its forces and influences.
Chinese Medicine uses natural methods to attain and maintain a healthy balance within the human system and with its environment.

Working with Jenny - What to Expect
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine are safe, effective branches of the TCM medical system that can help address a wide variety of common ailments and problems.
Initial visits generally last 90 minutes.
During your first visit Dr. Jenny Bisset will spend time getting to know you, your health concerns and your goals. She will go over your health history in detail, and gather information about your symptoms and lifestyle, diet, exercise and sleep habits, emotional states and anything that may offer insight into your health. She will also do a tongue and pulse diagnosis, two diagnostic tools that are unique to Chinese Medicine.
Once she knows which imbalances are at play, Dr. Bisset will create a plan to help you put things back into balance. She will explain to you what she believes is the root cause of your condition, and how it can be treated. Sometimes herbal prescriptions, food therapy or lifestyle suggestions are given.
For the acupuncture treatment, you will lie comfortably in a tranquil treatment room where she will place fine, sterile disposable needles at specific acupoints along the meridian pathways to begin to restore qi and blood flow.
These points communicate with the whole body, both along the muscles and skin as well as with the internal organs and nervous system. When a person is in a non-stressed state, and Qi is flowing freely, the body can begin to heal itself from painful or chronic conditions.
Once the points are placed, you will be resting for 20-30 minutes on the table while your body does the work. Most patients feel very relaxed, and many patients fall into a deep sleep.
Normally acupuncture is repeated on a regular schedule for several treatments until the body systems are rebalanced. Dr. Bisset will explain to you how often you will need treatment so that your goals can be achieved.
Your treatment plan may involve several stages including acute care, managing symptoms and finally maintenance & prevention.
Your role in the healing process
Your actions are a key component of your treatment plan. Focusing on your health and committing to a healthy lifestyle are the best steps you can take for your well-being.
Together, you and Dr. Bisset can heal your imbalances and help you achieve harmony and balance.
True healing is not a quick fix – be patient and give it time.
After your symptoms are resolved, acupuncture and herbal medicine can assist you in maintaining your health, and possibly prevent future problems. This is the main goal of TCM! The more you incorporate acupuncture and TCM into your life, the more you’ll nurture your body, mind and spirit.
By taking the right steps and planting the seeds of health, you will be on the road to a healthier you!
